We offer advocacy support for people experiencing mental distress/poor mental health, regardless of where people live in Leeds. This includes hospital settings (such as the Newsam and Becklin centres) and community settings such as people living at home, in supported accommodation, in hostels or of no fixed address.
We were delighted to be awarded a two year grant from Lloyds TSB Foundation at the end of 2009, to expand our services to include Older People (over 65) experiencing mental distress in Leeds, a group previously excluded from mental health advocacy services in Leeds.
We offer advocacy support to adults of all ages who have or are anticipating a diagnosis of dementia, regardless of whether the person is in hospital, at home or in residential or nursing care.
The Mental Health Act (1983, amended 2007) provides a legal right to advocacy for eligible people detained under the Mental Health Act, either in hospital, on Guardianship, or on a Community Treatment Order. We provide this service in Leeds for eligible people aged 16 and upwards.
Personality Disorder Clinical Network – we employ an Independent Service User Involvement Worker. Their role it is to support people with personality disorder, who use the Network’s services, to comment on and influence development of the Network’s services. This includes co-facilitating the Involvement Group, producing a quarterly newsletter with service users, and helping service users offer their views in Satisfaction Surveys.
Independent Living Project – the ILP is all about the provision of accommodation for people with enduring mental health needs, who had been living in the hostel accommodation in Leeds. The ILP aims to offer more independent living opportunities to people who will also have access to support in the long term. We employ Independent Advocates to support people to be fully involved in the planning for their future accommodation.
